GOP paints Hitler moustache on Dean (Updated, Updated Again)

Classy.

Dependable Renegade has the photo proof.

UPDATE

Apparently the front-page image on GOP.com has changed, but pegstander, a commenter at dKos, has found that the original image is still on their host. I've downloaded them and uploaded them on my web page.

The following is the new image, stored on GOP.com at http://www.gop.com/images/choice5.jpg:

And here's the old image (which I've copied just in case it eventually gets removed), which was originally at http://www.gop.com/images/choice4.jpg:

Click on the following to contrast the two pictures:

UPDATE 2

It's a good thing I copied the original HitlerDean image because the choice4.jpg image (the one that contained the cute little airbrushed Dean) on GOP.com now matches the cleaned up choice5.jpg. Looks like someone over there is still trying to cover their tracks.

(Hello to all the visitors from Atrios. I feel like I'm drinking from a firehose. :-)

I agree this was childish. Which is why I suspect it was probably done by some low-level staffer who got a chortle out of it. The image was changed soon after someone noticed it.

Not all Republicans are immature brats. Just most of them.

Hey whoever caught this should be lauded like Little Green Football's Charles Johnson!

I mean it is a case of photo manipulation on purpose to make something look worse than it actually is. I'm hoping that the person who did this at the GOP is fired like that Reuters photographer and that we go back and look at ALL the photos they put up on the website to see if they were manipulated in the same way.

I mean the GOP's credibility is at stake! They need to do more than simply issue a correction! I mean, it's only fair.

I noticed that too, I'm glad you saved it. I'm going to link to this page on my blog (don't get excited, though, as no one reads it).

Please don't mention my name in the same breath as a LGFer...

(Check the comments at Atrios... I was the first to notice it.) Watertiger and Chris had much more compelling posts about it than I did...

If you play the video over at GOP.com you'll notice they have a video clip of Murtha saying "the United States is more dangerous to world peace than North Korea and Iran."

Of course, what Murtha said was something to the effect that "a recent poll showed Europeans thought the United States is more dangerous to world peace than North Korea and Iran."

Republicans are just fuckers, I agree with the first comment. I am posting a blog entry on my site that typifies the current republican mindset/debate skills..

Is this just as bad as Jane Hamsher having a picture of Joe Lieberman in blackface??? It works both ways folks, so don't act as if Republicans have a corner on this type of crap. Democrats are just as bad.

If Jane was an official Dem campaigner, you might have a point. But Firedoglake is not a official Dem site, GOP.com is.

FU dude,

When the house changes (maybe senate ) you will see defeat. Everyone please read Conservatives without conscience. It is afield guide to republicans.

Gary,
The artist who did the Lieberman blackface photo was trying to make a valid political point about the way Lieberman was race-baiting Lamont to typically Lieberman-leaning urban voters. It may have been a ham-handed and incendiary way to make the point, but at least it was valid political discourse.

Exactly what political point is the GOP trying to make by putting a Hitler mustache on Dean?

You're right. Let's check the tally. Manipulation by people with a liberal view: Too Many to Count. Photo Manipulation by people with a Republican Views: 1

Boy this game is heating up. Difference is, the Republicans removed it, and it came from an obvious supporter of Republicans, GOP.com. The AP, New York Times and Reuters are trying to pass off as reliable and honest news sources, and haven't removed most pictures. Only the ones by Hajj.

So even the GOP is acknowledging that the Democrats are now the "Defeatocrats" because they are "defeating" conservatives? Take the word away from them...

An official GOP site vs. pissed off Dems ranting? Right . . . Y'all on the lock step right go ballistic when someone contributes a Hitler comparison to President Shithead as a contest contribution to Moveon, but when an official GOP party organ becomes engorged and distended with a fake Hitleresque Howard Dean the best you can do is say "you did it too so it doesn't count" and make farty noises?

Right . . .
